Jobs & Hope WV Shows Measurable Success During Recovery Month

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — As National Recovery Month is observed this September, West Virginia is highlighting the measurable successes of Jobs & Hope West Virginia, the state’s comprehensive program addressing substance use disorder and supporting individuals in recovery. 

Jobs & Hope WV connects participants with transition agents, education, job training, employment opportunities, and critical support services to help remove barriers and sustain long-term recovery. The program’s holistic approach addresses challenges such as transportation, legal obstacles, and financial instability, helping participants rebuild their lives. 

Program Impact 

  • Active Participants: 1,627 
  • Participants Employed: 10,510 
  • Driver’s Licenses Reinstated: 3,000+ 
  • Expungements Completed: 47 
  • Participants No Longer Receiving SNAP Benefits: 2,033 

These numbers demonstrate Jobs & Hope WV’s effectiveness in supporting recovery, self-sufficiency, and long-term success for West Virginians. 

Key Partnerships 

West Virginia Military Authority (WVMA) 

  • Partners with Jobs & Hope WV to deliver the Heavy Equipment Operator Certification Course at Camp Dawson. 
  • Participants engage in a 28-day, hands-on training program, gaining experience operating multiple pieces of heavy equipment, while also completing OSHA-10 Safety Certification, First Aid Certification, and resume preparation. 
  • Hosts Jobs & Hope WV’s Wage Reimbursement Program, enabling participants to gain paid work experience while developing in-demand skills. 
  • Participants in good standing may have their wages subsidized by their employer, who also gains access to free drug testing and additional support services. 

MODIVCARE & Good News Mountaineer Garage 

  • Address transportation barriers by helping participants get to work, training, and recovery appointments reliably. 
  • Ensure that lack of transportation does not prevent participation in recovery or employment opportunities. 
  • Good News Mountaineer Garage provides donated vehicles to eligible participants, helping to eliminate transportation barriers. 

Legal Aid of West Virginia 

  • Legal Aid of West Virginia assists Jobs & Hope WV participants with tenant issues, expungements to support fresh starts and improved access to employment and housing, divorce and custody matters, adoption and child support, as well as name changes and driver’s licenses. 

West Virginia DMV 

  • In partnership with the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles, Jobs & Hope WV helps participants reinstate driver’s licenses, removing a key barrier to employment, transportation, and full community participation.

Transition agents serve as the cornerstone of Jobs & Hope WV, providing personalized guidance and support to connect participants with resources in training/education, professional development, and recovery services. By combining individualized support with measurable outcomes, the program demonstrates how strategic investment in recovery creates lasting change.
